Small, but mighty

In 2008, I founded Union Design as a venue for providing smart, clean graphic design to nonprofits and small businesses. Union Design is a woman-owned design studio based in Chicago. With an emphasis on print design and branding, we are known for providing clean, smart graphic design that helps mission-driven organizations achieve their goals. From the beginning, our core client base has been Chicago’s non-profit organizations. We also work with small businesses and creatives who are ready to take their venture to the next level.

Clients include:

  • Children's Home & Aid

  • Institute for Protein Innovation

  • Women of the ELCA

The goal is union

It’s right there in our name. The idea of “union” shows up in the way we collaborate with our clients, the way we unite style with substance and the way we see our work fitting into the world around us. We strive to do work that is uplifting for our clients, ourselves, and our communities.

The Union process is based on empathy + expertise. By stripping away distractions and deeply listening to our clients, we are able to focus on the design and tap into our decades of experience to create designs that ring true.

 Judy Higgins

Creative Director and Founder of Union Design

A designer since 1995, Judy has honed her talent over the years for developing targeted, effective visual communications. Her work in the nonprofit and public affairs sector has taught her to design with the message in mind and make every design choice count. Her approach is simple; in order to create materials that engage, inform and inspire, the design must be at once relevant, authoritative and beautiful. Above all, she understands that each client is unique. The process of discovering a client’s essence and identity fuels her creative work.
